While her initial focus was on tech-devices for the elderly, Laurie has more recently taken a strong interest in tech-enabled home care. She wrote a strong paper on this several years ago (ahead of anyone else) and recently published a 2017 update. You can access it here.

The Value of Different Perspectives

One of my passions outside of home care is teaching. I live in Boston and have lectured at Harvard, MIT, and Bentley College, and I've served as adjunct faculty at UMass and at Babson College. One of the reasons that colleges bring adjunct faculty members is because they work in the industries that they teach in and they're able to bring an up to date perspective. In the computer technology arena, it is frankly hard to find textbooks that are up-to-date with the latest approaches used in tech companies like Ankota. For this reason, I always make it a point in class to compare and contrast what students read in their textbook with what I've taught in class. This gives them different perspectives (sometimes older vs. newer, sometimes theoretical vs. practical) and helps students understand more deeply.
